A message from the chairman

A message from the chairman

Adrian Davies11 Apr - 14:10

We look forward to welcoming you all to the key worker nation stadium for the WMRL trophy presentation.

Tomorrow marks a huge milestone for Telford Town FC. Our Men’s First Team will lift the West Midlands Regional Premier Division trophy at our final home game of the season, kicking off at 3PM against Saltley Stallions at the Key Worker Nation Stadium. The following is an unashamedly long message to celebrate everything we have achieved as a club over the past year and a bit.

We’re honoured to welcome the Mayor of Oakengates, Councillor Stephen Reynolds, as our guest of honour, and we’d love to see as many people as possible down at the ground – to show your support, celebrate this special occasion, and be part of what promises to be a memorable day in the club’s history.

When we took over the club in January 2024, as a board we started with two senior teams and a clear ambition: to build something the community of Telford can be proud of.

Fifteen months on, we’ve made great strides – but we know this is only the start of that ambition. Through hard work, unity, and belief, we’ve begun laying the foundations for a club that is thriving both on and off the pitch.

But as we move forward, it’s important we also look back.

Before we became Telford Town FC, this club was known as Wellington Amateurs, and it was built and sustained for many years by a group of dedicated people who gave so much to keep it going.

In particular, I want to take a moment to pay tribute to the late Dave Gregory.

Although I was never lucky enough to meet Dave personally, his legacy is clear in everything we’re doing today. The care, time, and energy he poured into the club laid the foundations for what we’re now building – and without him, and the support of his family and so many others who came before us, we would not be in this position. On behalf of everyone at Telford Town, thank you.

Men’s First Team – Champions with More to Come

Under the phenomenal leadership of Matthew Boswell, our Men’s First Team have delivered a truly remarkable season:
• 2024/25 West Midlands Regional Premier Division Champions
• 93 goals scored, only 14 conceded, with one league game still to play
• Powell Cup Final later this month
• Shropshire County Cup Final in May
• 2023/24 Powell Cup Winners (last season)

Our attendances at the Key Worker Nation Stadium have been among the highest at Step 7 nationally, and the support continues to grow.

Ladies First Team – Unbeaten and Flying

Formed less than a year ago, the Ladies First Team, led by the talented Elys Davies, has had an outstanding debut campaign:
• 3rd in the Shropshire Women’s Super League
• 4 points off top spot with two games in hand
• Unbeaten in the league
• 127 goals scored, only 4 conceded
• Shropshire Premier Cup Finalists

Their effort, unity, and drive are a credit to the club.

Development Team –

Soon to be rebranded as our Men’s Reserves, the Development Team – under the superb due of Andy Evans and Damien Walker – continues to evolve:
• Unbeaten in their last three games
• Narrow 2–1 loss in the cup semi-final to league leaders Shrewsbury Cup and Comers

We are really excited at what they are building for next season.

Junior Section – U6 to U16 Growth

At the start of 2024, we had no youth structure. As of 2025/26, we’ll have over 20 junior teams from U6 to U16, playing in:
• Telford Junior League
• Midlands Junior Premier League (MJPL)
• Walsall Junior Youth League
• Staffordshire Girls & Ladies Football League
• Central Warwickshire Girls League

This growth reflects the strength of our community spirit and belief in the power of grassroots football.

New for 2025/26 – Development Pathway (U18–U19)

From next season, we launch our new development pathway for 16–19-year-olds, giving young players structured opportunities to continue their journey:
• U18s will compete in the Midlands Junior Premier League
• A second U18 side is being considered for the Salop Leisure U18s League
• Our U19 Academy will enter the Youth Development League

This pathway is about creating space for young people to grow, stay in the game, and continue progressing in a supportive environment.

Looking Ahead

What we’ve achieved so far is down to the dedication of everyone connected to the club – coaches, volunteers, board members, players, families, and supporters. You are the beating heart of Telford Town, and we thank you for everything.

But we’re not finished.

We are especially focused on continuing to grow our juniors, girls’ and women’s section, and we’re actively looking for new players and coaches to be part of this journey.

Join Us Tomorrow – 3PM Kickoff

Tomorrow, the hard work of the past year will be rewarded as our Men’s First Team lifts the league title. Join us at 3PM at the Key Worker Nation Stadium, help us celebrate, and let’s show the strength of our club and our community.

Thank you for your belief, your support, and your passion.

This is only the beginning.

Chairman, Telford Town FC
