Telford Town 0–2 Bewdley Town Isuzu FA Vase – Second Qualifying Round

Telford Town’s Isuzu FA Vase campaign came to an end on Saturday as Bewdley Town secured a 2–0 victory at the Lionheart Security Services Stadium.
A penalty from Elliot Lees on the stroke of half-time and a second Bewdley goal from Mike Briges shortly after the restart proved decisive, sending the visitors through to the next round and leaving Telford to turn their attention back towards their league campaign.
After progressing through the First Qualifying Round following a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Darlaston Town, there had been plenty of anticipation surrounding another home Vase tie.
Telford went into the afternoon determined to put recent results behind them and produce a cup performance capable of extending their run in the competition.
The opening stages were competitive, with both sides looking to establish themselves and neither wanting to give too much away in what was always likely to be a hard-fought knockout encounter.
For much of the first half there was little to separate the teams, but the decisive moment arrived right at the end of the opening 45 minutes.
Bewdley were awarded a penalty and Elliot Lees stepped forward to convert from the spot, giving the visitors a 1–0 advantage at the interval and changing the complexion of the contest.
If Telford’s message at half-time was to regroup and start the second period strongly, those plans were dealt a major blow almost immediately.
Just four minutes after the restart, Mike Briges struck for Bewdley to double the visitors’ advantage and suddenly leave Town with a mountain to climb.
At 2–0 down, Telford were forced to chase the game as Bewdley looked to protect the advantage they had established either side of half-time.
Town continued to battle in search of a route back into the contest, but there was to be no breakthrough. Bewdley saw out the remainder of the afternoon to secure their place in the next round and bring Telford’s FA Vase adventure to an end.
It was a disappointing afternoon for Mike Dunn and his players, particularly after the excitement of the First Qualifying Round victory over Darlaston, but attention must now quickly switch back to the league.
There is plenty of football still to be played and plenty for this Telford side to target over the months ahead.
The ambition at the club remains unchanged. The focus now is on responding positively, building momentum and beginning the climb up the league table.
Town have an immediate opportunity to do exactly that when they return to the Lionheart Security Services Stadium on Saturday, with Barnton the visitors.
