Telford Town returned to league action following the half-term break with a challenging away fixture against league leaders Shifnal Blacks, who arrived boasting a seven-match winning streak and just three goals conceded all season. With two midfielders unavailable, Telford adjusted their shape and personnel — and delivered a performance full of discipline, resilience, and quality to secure a brilliant 3-1 victory.
The pitch was slick after heavy overnight rain, but the sun was out as the match kicked off. Telford began confidently, moving the ball wide early and utilising the pace of Archie and Bayley up front, supported by wing-backs Josh and Fin Walker. The defensive trio of Ethan, Brad and Zami, shielded superbly by Kayden and Fin, set the foundation, with Luke alert behind them.
First Half
Telford’s positive start was rewarded after just 4 minutes. A corner from Josh caused problems and was only partially cleared. Archie recycled possession superbly, delivering a first-time cross from the right towards Bayley, who showed composure: first effort saved, second poked home from close range.
Shifnal 0–1 Telford
The goal energised Telford, who controlled the tempo for much of the half. George dominated midfield with strong ball-carrying and smart distribution, feeding the wide channels and linking play. The defensive unit read danger well and stayed compact, with Luke sweeping effectively behind.
Shifnal grew frustrated and had moments where stronger officiating might have been required, but Telford maintained discipline. Late in the half, Shifnal created their first clear opportunity — a driven effort forcing a smart save from Luke high to his left.
Half-Time: Shifnal Blacks 0–1 Telford
Half-time message was clear: composure, patience, and belief — keep playing football and chances would come.
Second Half
Telford began brightly again, pinning Shifnal back. They were nearly undone on the break, though — a long clearance flicked on sent a Shifnal striker clear, but Luke produced an outstanding save with his legs.
That scare sparked Telford into another strong spell, forcing corners and sustaining pressure, but they were unable to extend their lead. Then, on 55 minutes, Shifnal capitalised on a moment of misfortune — a cross dropped awkwardly between Luke and Evan and a ricochet deflected into the net.
Shifnal 1–1 Telford
Shifnal built momentum and Luke had to intervene again soon after, tipping a dangerous effort around the post to keep the scores level.
Telford responded superbly. On 60 minutes, a move straight off the training ground restored the lead. George won possession in midfield and released Fin Walker down the right. He measured his cross perfectly behind the backtracking defence to the arriving Josh, who took a touch and finished clinically.
Shifnal 1–2 Telford
With the clock running down, Telford showed maturity — retaining the ball, managing the tempo and territory, and frustrating Shifnal.
In the 69th minute, the victory was sealed by the standout performer on the day. George pounced on a loose ball centrally, drove past two challenges and powered into the area before firing past the keeper. The Shifnal goalie got a hand to it, but the strike was too strong.
Shifnal 1–3 Telford
The boys saw out the remaining moments with composure to secure a superb away win.
