Telford close the league campaign in commanding fashion with composed victory at Wrockwardine

10/05/2026 – League Match

Wrockwardine Wood 0 - 3 Telford Town

Telford brought their league season to a close with an assured and disciplined performance away at Wrockwardine Wood, in a repeat of their recent cup final triumph and overcoming difficult conditions to secure another impressive victory.

Will started in goal behind a back three of Zami, Brad and George.

Kayden operated in the holding midfield role behind Harv and Fin, while Archie and Preston took up the wing-back positions.

Jacob and Bayley led the line, with Finn W, Xavi, Josh, Ethan and Luke available from the bench as rolling substitutes.

The playing surface proved extremely challenging, with ankle-deep grass and a very small pitch making Telford’s usual flowing style difficult to implement. Despite the cold conditions, the sun broke through by kick-off to provide a bright backdrop for the final league fixture of the campaign.

First Half

Telford made the perfect start, taking the lead inside the opening 30 seconds. Zami delivered a deep free kick into the Wrockwardine half where Jacob showed excellent control before Preston burst forward unmarked down the right and squared for Archie to tap home from close range.
Wrockwardine 0 - 1 Telford

The early goal sparked a response from the hosts, who immediately began to apply pressure with a succession of corners and long deliveries into the Telford area.

The difficult surface continued to disrupt Telford’s passing rhythm, while the compact dimensions of the pitch made breaking the defensive line increasingly difficult. Several tight offside decisions also halted promising attacking moves.

Wrockwardine used the conditions intelligently, with their goalkeeper repeatedly launching the ball long with the assistance of the wind, turning possession into territorial pressure.

As the half progressed, however, Telford began to adapt. Their passing improved, they started to dictate possession more effectively and gradually forced Wrockwardine deeper into their own half.

The visitors doubled their advantage after 24 minutes following excellent work down the right-hand side. Jacob and Preston combined superbly before Preston’s initial cut-back was blocked, only for him to react quickest and calmly guide the loose ball beyond the goalkeeper.
Wrockwardine 0 - 2 Telford

The goal triggered a strong spell of dominance from Telford. Kayden rattled the crossbar with a superb strike following a clever lay-off from Finn, while Jacob was unlucky not to convert from close range after meeting a rebound inside the area.

Half Time - Wrockwardine 0 - 2 Telford

The half-time message focused on remaining patient and continuing to adapt to the difficult conditions. Telford had managed the game intelligently in the opening half and were encouraged to continue using the wide areas and corners of the pitch to stretch the opposition.

Second Half

The second period again highlighted Wrockwardine’s familiarity with the conditions, as they repeatedly used the wind to launch high balls into dangerous areas.

Telford were forced to defend a series of free kicks and aerial deliveries, but Luke — introduced during the second half — was alert throughout, producing a number of confident saves and clearances.

At the other end, Telford remained dangerous on the counter-attack despite the difficult surface limiting their ability to build sustained passing moves. Bayley twice forced excellent saves from the home goalkeeper, first with a powerful effort from the edge of the area and later after strong approach play involving Josh and Preston.

Josh himself came close after arriving at the back post, only narrowly failing to make clean contact with another dangerous cross from Preston.

Although Wrockwardine remained within reach at 2–0, Telford’s defensive organisation — led superbly by Brad — ensured the hosts were restricted to limited clear-cut opportunities. Telford also rotated personnel effectively, giving players experience in different roles while maintaining control of the match.

The visitors finally sealed the result after 67 minutes with a superb breakaway goal. Defending a corner, Brad surged forward from deep, beat the covering defender with an excellent dummy and delivered a dangerous cross into the area. Archie’s effort was partially blocked before Brad reacted quickest again to lay the ball into the path of Xavi, whose strike took a deflection on its way past the goalkeeper.

Wrockwardine 0 - 3 Telford

The remaining minutes passed without further incident as Telford professionally saw out the game.

Full Time - Wrockwardine 0 - 3 Telford

Man of the Match Brad — A commanding defensive display from Brad, who read the game superbly throughout, won countless duels and continually snuffed out danger before it developed. He also played a decisive role in the third goal with an excellent driving run from defence.

Telford ended their league campaign in fitting fashion with a mature and highly professional performance. On a surface that offered little encouragement for expansive football, they adapted intelligently, defended resolutely and showed the composure and resilience that have become hallmarks of this side throughout the season.
