FIRST HALF

Telford began in a 4-3-3 formation, with Luke in goal behind a back four of Finn W, Brad, Zami and Ethan. Fin, Caiden and Kayden formed the midfield, with Jacob, Harv and Charlie leading the attack. Josh, Xavi, Archie, Bayley and Will were available as rolling substitutes.

The game could scarcely have started worse for Telford. With less than two minutes played, Shifnal delivered a corner into a crowded penalty area and forced the ball home.

2' – Shifnal Yellows 1–0 Telford Town U15s

It was an early indication of the problems Telford would face, with Shifnal repeatedly looking to test the defence through long balls and deliveries into the penalty area.

Telford gradually settled, however, and began to work their way back into the contest. Luke made a couple of important saves to prevent Shifnal extending their advantage, giving his teammates the opportunity to recover from the difficult opening.

That recovery was rewarded when Josh produced a good piece of skill on the left and drew a foul inside the penalty area. Brad took responsibility from the spot and confidently converted to bring Telford level.

The equaliser completed a much-improved spell from Telford, who had shown character to overcome their poor start and reach the interval on level terms.

HALF TIME

After conceding so early, Telford had fought their way back into the match and were well placed at the break. However, the threat posed by Shifnal's corners and direct play remained clear.

SECOND HALF

Unfortunately, the second half began in almost identical fashion to the first. Inside two minutes of the restart, another Shifnal corner caused problems in the Telford area and was converted to restore the home side's lead.

This time Telford struggled to find the same response. Their composure and organisation began to slip, while Shifnal began to take control of the game.

A cross into the penalty area led to the third goal before a long ball over the top opened the way for Shifnal to make it 4–1.

Will replaced Luke in goal for the closing 15 minutes, but the pattern of the match continued. Shifnal consistently delivered dangerous corners and Telford were unable to deal with the second balls inside their penalty area.

Three further goals followed from corners and crosses into the area as the home side emphatically punished Telford's repeated failure to clear the danger.

It was a difficult opening league match for Telford and one that highlighted areas requiring urgent attention. The team looked vulnerable whenever the ball was delivered from a corner or played over the defensive line, while the unity and composure shown during pre-season disappeared as the second half progressed.

Brad was named Man of the Match after another tireless performance. He converted Telford's penalty, continued working throughout and kept his composure during a challenging afternoon.

The first-half recovery showed what this group is capable of, but progress will require the right attitude, concentration and willingness to work collectively at both training and matches. This result does not have to define Telford's season, but the lessons from it must be taken seriously and acted upon quickly.
